2023 has been a stellar year for video game adaptations across both movies and television shows, but only one of them can rank as the best.

Video game adaptations in 2023 ranged from mediocre to brilliant, with some proving to be more popular than the source material.
The best video game movie of the year was The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which paid tribute to Nintendo's impressive legacy in an entertaining animated feature, but this was not the best video game adaptation overall.
The Last of Us series transcended the source material and became a highly successful and popular post-apocalyptic drama, but it's not even the best TV series adaptation of a video game released in 2023.
