The Dark Knight trilogy set the standard for gritty, realistic action films, resulting in numerous projects attempting to replicate its success, but most failed.
Movies like RoboCop, The Amazing Spider-Man, and Star Trek Into Darkness drew inspiration from The Dark Knight trilogy, but struggled to achieve the same impact due to various reasons like removing comedy elements or trying to go too dark.
The Nolan effect, which successfully balanced high stakes with realism, was not suitable for every film, as seen in examples like Suicide Squad, Punisher: War Zone, and Man of Steel, where it didn't translate well to the overall tone and universe of the movies.
